India says a decade of structural reforms, digital transformation and sustained investment in social development has strengthened its economy, enhanced investor confidence and positioned the country as an increasingly influential player in global trade and technology.
These developments were outlined on Tuesday by India's Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brahma Kumar, during a media briefing at the Embassy of India in Harare. The ambassador highlighted India's economic progress, technological advancements and human development achievements, while outlining the country's expanding global partnerships and long-term development agenda.
"India has significantly transformed its business environment over the past 12 years through reforms focused on regulatory simplification, digital governance, compliance reduction and improved market access," he said.
He added that the reforms had strengthened investor confidence, improved the ease of doing business and enhanced India's competitiveness in the global economy.

The ambassador said India had remained economically resilient despite global uncertainties, recording strong economic growth, expanding exports and diversifying its export markets. He noted that the country's increasing integration into global value chains and its growing network of free trade agreements formed key pillars of its international economic strategy.
Kumar also highlighted India's advances in technology, pointing to the expansion of digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and innovation ecosystems. He said the rapid rollout of internet connectivity and 5G services had accelerated the country's digital transformation and reinforced its position as an emerging global technology hub.
On social development, the ambassador said India had made notable progress in improving maternal and child health, expanding immunisation coverage, addressing child nutrition and promoting women's financial inclusion through large-scale public health and welfare programmes.
He said these achievements reflected the government's commitment to inclusive growth and equitable access to essential services.
Kumar, however, acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly the growing burden of non-communicable diseases and other emerging public health issues. He said continued policy reforms and adaptive governance would be essential to sustaining India's development gains.
