A teacher at Kachimana Primary School in Mudzi, in Mashonaland East Province on Tuesday caused a scene after he threatened to axe his headmaster over a register.

The teacher, Takuranashe Mbulawa, 44, appeared before Mutoko magistrate Elijah Sibanda yesterday who slapped him with ZWL$30 000 fine.

The court heard that on February 14, Mbulawa came to work late and saw his superiors, Tendai Nyambuya, 43, the school head, together with his deputy, Theresa Mazana, seated in Nyambuya’s office.

Mbulawa took the staff attendance register and falsely booked his time in, an anomaly which the head discovered and wrote a negative comment.

After seeing the comment, Mbulawa got angry. The head had a meeting with the District Schools Inspector and Mbulawa tried to join them but the DSI barred him.

Mbulawa later returned armed with an axe after the departure of the DSI, threatening to axe the head.

The deputy head managed to disarm Mbulawa while other teachers fled for cover.

A police report was filed, leading to Mbulawa’s arrest.
