World Boxing Council interim super-bantamweight champion Kudakwashe Chiwandire’s camp is bullish ahead of her championship defence bout against Mexican Yamilet “Yeimi” Mercado on March 18.
Delta Force director Clied Musonda said they had adequately prepared for the fight and they were also optimistic they will bring the belt home.
“The date has been set for the 18th of March 2023 in Chihuahua Mexico, I am glad to inform you that we are in full camp and are stable. We have taken all measures to prepare effectively. You may appreciate that Yamilet Mercado has successfully defended this title five times so far but this time she won’t make it because nothing is stopping us from bagging the world title,” said Musonda at a press conference organised on Monday, February 27.
Musonda added that while “Take Money” knows the fight will not be easy, he is quite sure that Chivandire will triumph.
“We are aware that this not going to be an easy fight, but we are 101% confident that we will emerge victorious. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our preparations thus far …our anchor sponsors RM Plumbing World and KGK Logistics who continue to enable our efforts, Invictus Gym for availing their world class staff and training facilities,” added Musonda.
The champion, Chiwandire, said she is determined to bring the belt home and will not succumb to any pressure although she is fighting away from home.
“I know I will be fighting so many miles away from home, but I can tell you that I am psychologically prepared and nothing will stop me from bringing the belt here, I will fly the Zimbabwe flag so high,” she said.
