Energy drink making company Kambucha Fresh Private Limited lost less than US$4000 - not the US$900 000 circulating on social media - to armed robbers who descended on their Graniteside premises, overpowered security guards and gained entry. The robbery took place around 1am on Wednesday, March 1.

The six robbers then proceeded to a room where the safe is kept, blew it up with explosives before disappearing with the money.

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with an alleged Armed Robbery incident which occurred at Kambucha Holdings, Harare, at 0135 hrs today where US$3 702.00 was stolen.

“Suspects who were armed attacked a security guard, took his firearm and held hostage eight workers before ransacking the Administration block and forced open a safe. More details will be availed as investigations continue,” police said.

Though it opened shop less than two years ago, so popular have been the Kambucha flavours for their alleged immune system boosting effects.
