As the abuse of minors continues to plague the country, police in Mahusekwa, Mashonaland East Province, have arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly kidnapped two children before raping a 22-month-old baby for ritual purposes.
The incident occurred in Munyikwa Village under Chief Chihota and it led to police arresting a bartender after the teenager indicated that he was the brains behind the kidnapping.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachi confirmed the incident yesterday.
“Police are investigating a case in which a man kidnapped two minors. We appeal to the public to quickly report such cases so that the culprits are brought to book as well as to assist the victims,” he said.
The suspect broke into the roomotm where the minors – a four-year-old boy and his 22-month-old sister – slept together with their mother on February 28.
The mother fled while shouting for help, leaving the children behind and only returned with some villagers, but the children were not there.
The four-year-old later returned and told the mother that his sister had been kidnapped by the suspect.
A report was filed with the police and the suspect was arrested while hiding in a bush in Gunzvenzve Village.
The suspect led them to the minor, who had been sexually abused and implicated a 25-year-old bartender in Chihota, who was also arrested.
