Police on Thursday last week arrested two suspects, after they were found with US$2 000 worth of TelOne overhead copper wires which they intended to sell in Bulawayo.

Acting Criminal Investigations Department provincial spokesperson, Detective Assistant Inspector Rachel Muteweri said that Johan Ndlovu, 37, and Brighton Sibanda, 20, were arrested at a Gwanda bus terminus before being taken to Gwanda Police Station for further investigations.

If they are convicted by the courts, the two face a 10-year-jail term each.

The 200-metre cables had allegedly been stolen from one of TelOne facilities on Thursday and police arrested the suspects on the same day following a tip-off.

Police suspect that Ndlovu and Sibanda were linked to other cases to do with copper theft.

Muteweri thanked members of the public for supplying credible information that led to the arrest of the two.

The duo is charged with Contravening Section 89(1)(a) of the Postal and Communication Act Chapter 12:05; Willful Damage to or Interference with Telecommunication lines.
