A man from Lower Gweru, Nkosentsha Mkhize, is expected to appear in court soon for the murder of his friend, Thembalani Tshuma, 22, whom he struck with a log over a beer drink misunderstanding.

According to eye witnesses, the two friends were early this week drinking beer at a bottle-store situated at Ntabamhlophe around 11pm when they engaged in an argument that later turned into harsh words.

It later degenerated into a fist fight and sensing defeat, Mkhize fetched a log with which he used to hit his friend. No one came to their rescue and Tshuma could only cry for help until he collapsed and died on the spot.

In a related incident in Chief Chireya’s place in Gokwe, yet another misunderstanding during a beer drink resulted in another man, Aramm Dube, battling for his life at Gokwe District Hospital after being severely beaten up by two men he had refused to buy beer.

The two suspects whom police have named as Abraham and Thembelani approached Dube and demanded that he buys beer for them. He refused.

During a scuffle that ensued, the two started beating Dube and one of them is reported to have stabbed him. He was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

In the face of the two incidents, Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has discouraged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when faced with disputes.
