The Zimbabwe Gender Commission has called for nominations for the 2023 gender equality awards to be hosted by the parastatal.

The Commission said the awards are designed to recognise the valuable work being done by different institutions and individuals in advancing gender equality in government, the private sector, local authorities and civil society organisations.

“Individuals or institutions advancing gender equality can be nominated and self-nominations will also be accepted.

“The award is limited to individuals and institutions advancing gender equality. Gender equality recipients will have made a significant impact in the area of gender equality. The awards are targeted at excellence, outstanding and exceptional performance in gender equality initiatives by individuals or institutions advancing gender equality,” ZGC said in a statement.

The categories of the awards include the Ministry with Gender Sensitive Board appointments, Outstanding Ministry with gender responsive programmes, Outstanding Local Authority with gender responsive programmes, private sector organisations supporting gender equality initiatives and Civil Society Organisation with outstanding initiatives to include initiatives on preventing and responding to gender based violence and individuals (male gender champions) who have contributed to pushing for gender equality in the country.

“Individuals and institutions meeting the stated criteria can submit their profiles to email address: awards.zgc@gmail.com ,” reads the ZGC statement.

The deadline for submissions is April 29, 2023.

ZGC is established in terms of Section 245 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe to promote, protect, enforce and advance gender equality.
