The security guard who was the first to discover the corpse of a man believed to have been murdered outside Parirenyatwa Hospital early this week has been awarded by the security company he works for.
The award, in the form of a hamper, was in recognition of the professionalism he executed upon coming into contact with the body.
The award recipient, Lameck Kwari who joined Volsec Security in January this year, said he was motivated by the gesture shown by his employer and it propelled him to work even harder.
Though he had knocked off work and was on his way home, Kwari took time to examine the body to establish whether the man was still alive or dead and when he found out he was dead, he went onto make a report at Harare Central Police Station.
“I am happy to receive the hamper in a short space of time. I started to work for Volsec on January 1, 2023. I have learnt that if you do something good within the organisation, the company will recognise you,” he said.
Volsec Finance manager, Nesbert , said they usually folk out more money to train their personnel as they know that they will reap the benefits.
“Most finance managers are being known for being costs conscious but I am an all-rounder in terms of appreciating employees. We invest a lot in terms of training with the full knowledge that once we train people, we always get benefits from the investment.
“So as finance management, we do not limit the cost of training, with the overall objective of being a responsible citizen in the community that we live in,” he said.
Volsec training officer, Kudzai Shamhu said as an organisation they saw a video of Kwari regarding the work he had done circulating on social media and they decided to give him a token of appreciation.
“We have quarterly awards but we couldn't wait for those awards since he did a great job, so we decided to give him a token of appreciation,” he added.
He said Volsec is the first security services provider in Africa to be SHEQ-certified in three international standards namely ISO 9001:2008 or Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2004 or Environment Management System and OHSAS 18001:2007 or Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series.
Shamhu said in-depth induction training is thoroughly done as they train first aid, basic firefighting, safety and health which gives them guarantee that the community at large can benefit since they are part of the Volsec family.
