An Eastview man has been arraigned before the courts to answer to charges of  selling a non-existing stand.

Peter Mubare, 53, of Eastview, Harare appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of fraud or, alternatively, contravening Section 136 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.

The complainant in this matter is Jane Mutasa, 68, of Birley Close, Marlborough, Harare.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that in September 2022, Mutasa wanted to buy a residential stand in Calidonia, Eastview, Harare.

Mutasa heard that Mubare had a stand ready for sale in the same area and she was interested.

She made arrangements with Mubare so that they could meet. After the meeting Mutasa paid US$4 000 to Mubare for the stand.

Mutasa with the belief that the stand was now hers, in October 2022 visited the property and to her surprise saw it being developed by one Panashe Chamuka.

She contacted Mubare who told her that he was going place her as the owner of the stand.

Mutasa made a follow up on the promise that had been made by Mubare, but she could not get the stand.

Mutasa tried to contact Mutasa, but he was nowhere to be found.

As a result Mutasa lost US$4 000 and nothing was recovered.

Mubare was granted bail of ZWL$100 000 and ordered to return to court on May 17 pending finalisation of investigations.
