Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident, which happened last Tuesday around 8pm, saying Edmore Chidzivani, 39, of Chembariro Village under Chief Mazetese, Mwenezi put poison in his food and died.
Dhewa urged the members of the community to value the sanctity of life and always try engaging third parties in the event of disagreements.
On the fateful day, Chidzivani returned home after spending five days at his girlfriend Juliana Shoko’s place at Cheshanga Business Centre, Mwenezi.
Chidzivani told his wife, Christine Madhuna, 26, that he wanted to take Shoko as his second wife, adding that he was planning to pay lobola.
A heated argument ensued as this did not go down well with Madhuna.
Chidzivani’s mother, who stays close by, heard the two arguing around 7pm on the same day and decided to check what was happening.
She found Madhuna in the kitchen and aksed her what was happening. The two went to discuss with Chidzivani and found him lying unconscious in the bedroom with a plastic container in his pocket.
