Harare listens, reduces parking fees

Zim Now Writer

The City of Harare has reduced the clamping fee of US$132 it has been charging to US$57, payable within three hours.

This comes following an outcry from motorists, some of whom have taken the City to court over clamping fees, who felt the fees were too exorbitant and did not consider the duration one had spent on an expired parking ticket.

However, if the motorist fails to pay the US$57 within three hours, they will pay the US$57 plus a parking fine of US$65.

In a move that will excite motorists, the City also indicated that if a motorist's ticket expires or they have been delayed within reasonable time, they will be allowed to pay an extra US$1 without being fined.

However, a motorist will be fined if they exceed 30 minutes from their booked time.

Council’s finance committee, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume said, had been instructed to begin the process of reducing the fines to the new levels.
