Man lands NPRC job without required qualifications

Michael Mashiri

A Gweru man who got a job without the required qualifications before it was later discovered that has been taken to court.

Joseph Mufambisi, 46, of Gweru was before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro at the Harare Magistrates' Courts, charged with fraud.

The State, alleges that in June 2021, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission flighted an advert for Internal Auditor post on their website.

The minimum qualification requirements for the post were a degree in Accounting or a Higher National Diploma in accountancy.

Mufambisi, who did not have the required papers for the job, applied for the post and furnished the Commission with a copy of his Curriculum Vitae and application letter as required by the Commission.

He lied on his curriculum vitae that he was a holder of a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy.

As a result, Mufambisi and two other candidates namely Owen Chiweshe, Patience Njenje were interviewed for the post.

In September 2021, Mufambisi was offered to take up the post after the two other candidates had denied the Commission’s offer.

He accepted and assumed duty on September 29, 2021.

In November 2021, the Salary Service Bureau requested for copies of Mufambisi’s HND in Accountancy so that they could file the information, resulting in the NPRC human resources department contacting him to provide the Commission with his certified copies of academic qualifications.

However, Mufambisi, was allegedly involved in an accident before he could furnish the Commission with his certificates which he had been requested to provide.

In March 2022, the Commission carried out an internal audit and the audit findings revealed that he had not submitted the certificate for the HND in accountancy which he claimed to hold.

When contacted to provide his HND certificate, Mufambisi failed to do so.

Investigations revealed that Mufambisi did not complete his HND in accountancy, instead they showed that he had only completed four subjects out of eleven required to complete the higher national diploma.

He lied that he had the HND in accountancy in 2002 with the intention to defraud the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.

The HND was a pre-requisite qualification for the post, as a result he was appointed to the post causing NPRC to suffer prejudice in its good administration and salaries which are being quantified and also caused prejudice to other qualified candidates.

Muchuchuti-Guwuriro ordered Mufambisi to pay ZWL$100 000 bail and ordered him to report once every month to the nearest police station.

He will appear in court on May, 5, 2023.
