The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has said there is need to continuously sharpen the skills of journalists to retain the power of the media so as to guarantee its future.
Speaking at the National Journalism Summer School conference organised by the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe, in partnership with FNF in Masvingo, Editor of The Sunday Mail, Victoria Ruzvidzo on behalf of FNF Programmes Manager Fungisai Sithole, said the summer school is of value to journalists’ growth and for the growth of the profession.
“The power and integrity of the media needs to be defended. We are committed to the development and strengthening of performers in our society so that they can be the best.
“We thus, believe in the provision of opportunities for personal growth, this is why we are supporting the VMCZ summer school which is deliberately targeting the future of journalism and media,” she said.
FNF said it hopes to make the summer school an annual event, adding to other contributions in the media sector in Zimbabwe.
The Foundation said it is proud to have supported the work of the media in Zimbabwe and is hoping to continue in that regard.
FNF’s partner, the VMCZ is a media professionalism body that regulates media conduct in Zimbabwe.
FNF is a global liberal Foundation with offices in over 60 countries across the world.
Among its liberal values and work on freedom (specifically media freedom), rule of law, human rights, the Foundation believes in the empowerment of the individual.
Meanwhile, FNF has encouraged students to continue working towards giving the journalism profession the dignity and value that it brings to our society.
