A 24-year-old part-time maid has been remanded in custody after allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth US$3,600 from her employer’s home in Old Mbizo, Kwekwe.
Tariro Kasanzu appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo facing a charge of unlawful entry into premises.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that the complainant, Moleen Chingwaru (40), a Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, had hired Kasanzu for part-time domestic work.
The State alleges that between June 2026 and July 14, Kasanzu used a duplicate key to enter Chingwaru’s bedroom several times while she was at work.

She allegedly stole a black-and-white striped wallet containing US$3,000, a further US$200 kept in a jacket inside a wardrobe, clothing and a wristwatch.
The alleged theft came to light on July 14 when a neighbour reportedly saw Kasanzu inside the bedroom and alerted Chingwaru.
The complainant allegedly discovered that property was missing and reported the matter to the police.
Kasanzu was later arrested, and a search of her residence allegedly led to the recovery of US$1,640 in cash, clothing and a wristwatch.
The court heard that property worth US$1,990 had been recovered, while the total value of the allegedly stolen property was US$3,600.
Kasanzu was remanded in custody for further proceedings.
