Two Avakash International employees were on Monday arrested for failing to account for US$12 000.
The human resources manager for the Mt Pleasant-based company, Takudzwa Kanengoni, reported accounts officer, Davidson Zowa, and driver, Ashley Mawarire, for alleged fraud.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said the company discovered that US$12 000 was missing after a reconciliation of the money collected from its clients.
“Complainant discovered that the driver used to collect money from their customers and connived with the accounts officer, who would clear the customers’ debt from the company system.
“After clearing the customers’ debts, the accounts officer would not update the cash book.
“The finance manager asked the accounts officer to clarify the issue and he confessed that he was working with the driver to collect money and clear customers’ debts from the system for their own benefit,” said Insp Chakanza.
Nothing has been recovered.
