President Emmerson Mnangagwa has bemoaned the surge in drug abuse and called for divine intervention.
Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing a Methodist Easter Service in Chitungwiza.
The service was attended by congregants from Chitungwiza West, Dzivarasekwa, Harava, Trinity and Seke circuits.
“The church must play its part towards eradication of vices such as drugs and substance abuse, crime, bullying, as well as other anti-social behaviour.
“In this regard, I commend the youths who are heeding calls by my government, parents and guardians to shun the use of drugs and harmful substances.
“Let us continue on this path and nurture the right morals among our children,” said Mnangagwa.
He further urged the youths to encourage each other towards entrepreneurship and help the country to grow “brick by brick”.
He emphasised that it is a collective duty to modernise and industrialise and grow the economy.
Clergyman Reverend George Mawire, the Bishop of the Methodist Church said he was glad that the country’s presidium is God-fearing.
“The leadership is God-fearing. We have a relationship with government.
“As the President said, there should be peace in the church and the nation, hence we expect and preach peace. I am glad the President preached peace in the church, the Lord decides,” he said.
