Man up for insulting President, assaulting cop

Michael Mashiri

A man from Western Triangle in Highfield, Harare has been arraigned before the court on charges of insulting the President, claiming that he had failed to run the country.

Dumisani Dangirwa, 43, of Western Triangle, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of insulting the President.

The State, through Zororai Nkomo, alleges that, on April 7, Dangirwa was at the corner Bank Street and Cameroon Street.

Dangirwa was heard by the complainant shouting that the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe was failing to run the country and he was going to lose the elections because he is a thief.

The complainant then identified himself as a police officer and ordered Dangirwa to stop insulting the President.

That is when Dangirwa is alleged to have become violent and slapped the police officer.

Dangirwa continued pursuing the police officer shouting “wakajaidzwa munhu waMnangagwa (I will deal with you Mnangagwa loyalist),” and continued assaulting the police officer, shouting obscenities while threatening the police officer with a trimming knife.

The court is still yet to pass its determination on whether Dangirwa is a suitable candidate for bail or not.
