More drug peddlers arrested as operation to weed them out intensifies

Police in Harare, acting on a tip-off, arrested Moses Chibesu, 28, in Warren Park, for possessing 40 grammes of crystal meth packed in 127 plastic sachets and 20 grammes of dagga.

And in related cases ZRP Budiriro arrested Mike Allen Tawona,38, in Glen-View 4, Harare for possession of 69 sachets of dagga as well as Tsitsi Tafirenyika Similo, 55, of Bulawayo for possession of 21 sachets of dagga which were found hidden under a sofa in the suspect’s room in Northend.

In Beitbridge, police arrested Sinothile Moyo, 31, and Pomuri Nezungai, 40, for possession of unregistered medicines at Beitbridge Border Post. They recovered two boxes of 50x100 ml broncleer cough syrup from the suspects.

Meanwhile, police have released the names of ten people who died in a fatal road traffic accident on the April 7, 2023, along the Harare -Masvingo Road.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victims were positively identified by their next of kin.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police announces names of the 10 victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on April 7, 2023, at the 193.5-kilometre peg along Harare -Masvingo Road,” said the ZRP.

The victims have been positively identified by their next of kin as follows:-

Alfred Nyoni (42), a male adult of Gokwe Centre,

Peter Maputi (49), a male adult of Chegutu,

Elizabeth Siwela (67), a female adult of Mavuyani Village, Gokwe North,

Fadzai Chikono (48), a female adult of Ruhwaya Village, Gokwe,

Juliet Mapfumo (63), a female adult of Mafumo Village, Gokwe North,

Tawanda Chazunguza, a male adult of Chazunguza Village, Gokwe

Farai Chinyama (65), a male adult of Nyamavhumbo Village, Gokwe North,

Godloves Zhou, a male infant aged 4 months from Murunga Village, Gokwe North,

Mika Sibanda (45), a male adult of Goremusandu Village, Gokwe North,

Juliet Chauke a female adult of Gokwe.

The accident occurred when a Toyota Caravan kombi collided with a minibus at around 0600 hours resulting in the death of ten people, while 31 others were injured.
