Netballer collapses at practice, dies on admission to hospital

Platinum Queens and Zimbabwe international netball player Sibekezelo Ncube collapsed during a training session and later died upon admission to hospital.

The player was known for her skill, determination, and positive attitude on and off the court. Her sudden passing has left a void in the Zimbabwean netball community, and her teammates and coaches have spoken of their devastation at the loss of such a promising young player.

Ncube’s sudden death is a tragic reminder of the risks and challenges faced by athletes, even at the highest level of competition. It also highlights the need for greater awareness and support for the physical and mental well-being of athletes, particularly in developing countries where resources may be limited.

Her club has said the Zimbabwean netball community will continue to mourn the loss of Sibekezelo Ncube and remember her as a talented player, a kind and generous teammate, and a shining example of the best of Zimbabwean sport.
