Zanu PF primary poll re-runs on today

Primary election re-runs in places in which they were ordered by the party’s politburo, are being held today across the country.

All is set for reruns of outstanding Zanu PF primary elections which will be held today in four constituencies across the country.

There will be re-runs today in Mbare, Churu, Gokwe-Nembudziya and Zvimba West constituencies.

The fifth re-run, in Insiza South, Matabeleland South Province, will be conducted on April 22.

Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and incumbent National Assembly member is slugging it out with Maruva Mercy Dinha in Zvimba West constituency.

In Gokwe-Nembudziya, former Cabinet Ministe, Flora Buka is locking horns with the incumbent MP, Justice Mayor Wadyajena.

In Mbare constituency, the battle will between Zanu PF councillor Martin Matinyanya and Zanu PF Harare provincial youth chairman Emmanuel Mahachi.

Ephraim Fundukwa is contesting against Charles Matsika in Churu constituency in elections that are expected to run from 7am to 3pm with vote-counting expected to start immediately after polling.

The process is expected to have been completed by 6pm.

There will be 10 polling stations in Mbare constituency, while Churu will have 25, Zvimba West 24 and Gokwe-Nembudziya 28 polling stations.

Zanu PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha said the party has already deployed presiding and polling officers to the polling stations to ensure a smooth flow of elections.

“Presiding and polling officers are already at their stations ready to ensure a smooth voting process,” said Bimha.

Two Politburo members have been deployed in each of the four constituencies to monitor voting with Paul Mangwana and Kenneth Musanhi supervising in Churu constituency, while Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and Elifas Mashaba will be in Zvimba West.

Engelbert Rugeje and Daniel Mackenzie Ncube will be monitoring in Mbare constituency, while Douglas Mombeshora and Michael Nyambuya will be in Gokwe-Nembudziya.

“Politburo members who have been deployed are on their way, while some are already at their respective destinations depending on the distance,” said Cde Bimha.

They will be stationed at the Constituency Command Centre.

Formal preliminary results of the re-runs are expected to be announced on Monday next week.
