Two Dzivaresekwa men who stole a car that was parked at the owner's residence and then began to call her saying they wanted money for them to show her the whereabouts of her car have been arrested.
Tendai Chaukura, 39, and Kelvin Fombe, 28, both residing in Dzivaresekwa 3 appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of stealing a car and violating Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act chapter 9.23 as read with section 2 of the Road Traffic Act Chapter 13:11.
The State, through Cecilia Mashingaidze, alleges that on December, 13, 2021 at around 16:00 hours, the complainant in the matter parked her Honda Fit at number 6850 Glen Norah B Flats, Harare.
She secured the car by closing and locking all doors and windows as she went into her house.
On the same date Chaukura and Fombe saw the car and came up with a plan of stealing it.
They went to the house, used an unknown object to force open the door and drove away without being noticed.
On January, 1, 2022 at around 22:30 hours complainant checked her car outside and was surprised to see it not there.
She went to ZRP Glen Norah and made a report about the car. The accused started calling the complainant demanding money from her, telling her that after receiving the money they would show her where the car was.
The police were informed leading to the arrest of Chaukura and Fombe.
The car is valued at US$5 000.
Mambanje ordered them to appear in court on May, 18.
He advised them to approach the High Court for bail.
