A Waterfalls uncle has appeared in court after raping his niece.

Edmore Tigere, 49, of Waterfalls was before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates' Court charged with rape.

The State, alleges that in 2012, Tigere took the complainant in the matter who is now 18 years from where she was playing and went with her into his bedroom.

He laid complainant on the bed and removed her trousers and pants and went on to insert his manhood into her private parts.

The court was informed that later in 2015, the complainant was sleeping in the dining room when Tigere came back from work and removed complainant's blanket and went on to remove her trousers and pants.

Tigere went on top of complainant and had sexual intercourse with complainant.

He kept on sexually abusing complainant on different occasions until the complainant told Tigere that if he continued with the abuse, she would reveal the matter to his wife and he stopped abusing her.

The matter came to light sometime in February 2023 when complainant told her mother who is in South Africa about the matter and she advised complainant to file a report leading to the arrest of Tigere.

Tigere was ordered to pay ZWL$200 000 bail and to continue staying at his place of residence until the matter was finalised.
