Harare Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Lovemore Mafukidze confirmed that driver escaped unscathed and there was minor damage to the truck.

"The tanker was carrying petrol and the fire that broke out yesterday was caused by suspected binding of the rear tires which caused the discolouration of the tanker," Mafukidze said.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the incident was probably kindled by technical glitches that led to the fire.

"Thomas Masawi was driving a tanker belonging to Ajara Trucking Logistics on the 19th of September 2022 at around 16:45hrs along kirkman road due west loaded with forty thousand litres of petrol,"

"On approaching National Sports Stadium the left rear tire burst there by causing fire emission."

Eye witnesses told Zim Now that Harare Fire Brigade trucks were on the scene within 30 minutes and quickly put out the fire.

The incident was reported at Mabelreign Police Station.
