Glow Petroleum Service Station, along Chiremba Road in Hatfield, Harare, was on Tuesday raided by eight armed robbers who got away with US$854 cash and cellphones.

Gilbert Sigareta, 52, a security guard, Ursula Ndlovu, 29, Brian Kapembeza, 24, Muchaneta Mafura, 30, and Albert Brasha, 23, of Glow Petroleum Service Station, along Chiremba Road in Hatfield, were locked in a room by the suspects while they got away with the loot.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the suspects were reported to have switched off lights to disable a CCTV.

“Circumstances were that on May 2, at around 0230 hours, a security guard at Glow Service Station, Corner Scott Road and Chiremba Road in Hatfield was on duty, armed with a revolver firearm.

“He was approached by eight men who were all armed with unidentified pistols.

“Two of the accused persons were putting on worksuits inscribed, ‘Scott Neighbourhood Watch Committee.’

“The accused persons are reported to have disarmed the security guard of his revolver and tied his hands with shoelaces.

“They then left one of the accused persons guarding him while others proceeded to the service station offices where four service attendants were seated,” he said.

The suspects allegedly ordered the complainants to lie down, searched them and stole their cellphones.

They instructed the complainants to show them where the electric breaker was located and they were shown.

One of the suspects switched off lights to disable CCTV while others demanded cash from the complainants who surrendered cash amounting to US$454.
