Starlink Reopens Registration After 7-Month Freeze

Zimbabweans outside the capital can now sign up for Starlink again after the satellite internet service lifted its 7-month registration freeze in selected areas.

The SpaceX-owned service has quietly reopened subscriptions in:

  • Zimbabwean towns and rural areas
  • Parts of Nairobi (Kenya)
  • Lusaka (Zambia)
  • Kano, Port Harcourt, and Warri (Nigeria)
  • Accra (Ghana)

Major cities, including Harare, Lagos, and Abuja, remain closed to new users as Starlink continues managing network congestion that forced the October 2024 suspension.

While no official announcement has been made, the removal of "sold-out" notices on Starlink's website confirms the partial reopening. The move comes after infrastructure upgrades to handle Africa's booming demand for reliable internet.

Harare residents have to wait for improved service and new registration availability as Starlink gradually increases service across the continent.
