Alois Masepe and his executive were on Tuesday relieved of their duties after failing, for five months, to hold a mandatory AGM, even after a resolution reminder to do the same.
The club patron, His Worship Cllr Jacob Mafume, presided over a special council meeting on Tuesday at which a resolution to dispense of Masepe, his executive and Tafadzwa Bhasera, the club CEO, with immediate effect and audit of books, was made.
The funding for the same was also halted until the full reconstitution of the matter, which in the immediate, doesn't affect the club fixture Wednesday against Omnia at Callies.
It is expected an interim decision to set the wheels in motion to fix the issue is being considered before the week ends as the club patron awaits full disclosure of the issue from the information and publicity chairperson, Cllr Happy Gotora, who also chairs the club board of trustees.
But the decision to remove Masepe also included immediate closure of club offices at the mayoral mansion in Gunhill.
It is the council concern that the football club that has suffered two relegations from the premiership under Masepe has failed governance tests over the period and that there was no commitment from the club hierarchy to remedy the bleeding.
The Information and Publicity Committee who make the board of trustees had since the beginning of the year requested full disclosure of the state of the club in the wake of relegation and allegations of misuse of power and funds by Masepe and crew.
In response, Masepe, instead showed disdain and disrespect to authority, failing at every turn of asking, to provide the requested answers, a situation that forced the club patron, Mayor Mafume to demand explanation from Cllr Gotora as to why the club has not been as answerable as they should.
Despite refusing to hold an AGM at the back of a council resolution to hold the same in 21 days last month, Masepe instead wheeled in the executive for a meeting on Sunday in Kadoma, raising questions as to how and why it was possible for him to hold a meeting with no notice agenda.
The full council, at a special meeting yesterday were then left with no choice but remove them to protect the Harare City brand.
The councillors unanimously resolved to restore order and protect it.
