Contemporary musician Jah Prayzah, launched his 12th album, Chiremerera, at Old Hararians on Friday, May 12, with his mother, Shirley Mukombe, as the guest of honour.

Staying true to his Afrocentric values, the Uzumba-bred singer gave his mother a voice, amid great expectations of him scaling to super-stardom.

“Growing up, Mukudzei was an obedient child and was sharp in school. I discovered that he was a singer when he was in Grade Five after singing at our United Methodist Church.

“He used to sing every day coming back from school and we could know that he had arrived when we heard his voice.

“He then went to stay with his uncle, Jonah Savanhu, who also attested to his talent because he would still sing the same way while going about his chores.

“His uncle never complained and I want to thank him for nurturing him.

“Today we are launching his 12th album and I want to say congratulations to Mukudzei, the 3rd Generation Band and above all to you the fans,” Mrs Mukombe said.

Businessman Tinashe Mutarisi praised the singer for paying tribute to his mother.

“Ma guest of honour manyama, this must feel good having your own mother as your special guest on your day.

“Congrats on the album launch, Jah Prayzah, so proud King, having your mom as the guest of honour was a beautiful tribute. Keep shining bright King mukuvaremera,” Mutarisi wrote on his Facebook page.

Jah Prayzah went on to give fans an epic performance to meet his supposed legendary status.

Chiremerera runs for 57 minutes and includes 13 tracks full of upbeat traditional dance hits, with the only featured artist being Feli Nandi on Sarungano.

In one of the songs, Kurarama, Jah Prayzah performed with a Rwandan traditional dance group, giving fans a flare of his rich traditional knowledge.

He also produced another moment when he was joined on stage by the Guruve Marimba Arts Ensemble to perform another new song, Wanga Wakarara.

At just 35-years-old, Jah Prayzah has achieved the feat of becoming the first Zimbabwean artist to launch his 12th album in Harare on Friday night and his 13th album, Maita Baba, in Bulawayo 24 hours later.

Jah Prayzah gave epic performances before packed audiences in both cities.

On Maita Baba, which is a mixture of genres, the lanky star featured Heavy K, DJ Tira, Takura, Gemma, Shasha and NoMfundo.

The project also carries 13 tracks which the singer says are a response to his fans’ demands for traditional tracks, wedding and party songs.

Chiremerera means respect in Shona, while Maita Baba means thank you father.

In seven days, the new video is already trending at number 1 and has garnered more than 600K views.
