A Mutare woman has dragged her husband to court seeking a protection order after revealing he beds his girlfriends in their bedroom while she sleeps on the floor.
Mildred Fushai was granted a protection against her husband Phinos Fushai by Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, which is valid for a year.
He also advised her to sue Phinos’ girlfriends since they are legally married under Chapter 5.11 of the Marriage Act.
Mildred stated that Phinos was neglecting his family as well as bringing his girlfriends to their matrimonial home, forcing her to sleep on the floor.
“My husband knows that I suffer from hypertension and diabetes, but he does not take care of me or buy me the required medication.
“He always sells his relatives a dummy, claiming that we had agreed that he will marry another wife. We are legally married and I cannot bless such madness,” Mildred said.
She said at one point, she filed a report at Dangamvura Police Station against Phinos when he brought home two young women at the same time and kicked her out of the house.
“When police officers accompanied me to my house, he told them off. I was advised to seek alternative accommodation for my safety as Phinos had exhibited violent behaviour in the presence of the police officers.
“I went to one of my relatives and sought refuge there. I returned home after a week and found the ladies gone,” she said.
Phinos told the court that when he married Mildred, he told her that he would marry a second wife and they agreed to that arrangement.
He said he brought another woman home when Mildred was away.
He also claimed that he is taking care of his wife and family by buying them food as well as her medication.
He further stated that he constructed a big house for her at their rural home and installed solar panels.
“We agreed that after marrying her, I would marry a second wife. She told me that we should tie the knot first before marrying another woman. I am surprised that she is now shifting goalposts,” Phinos stated.
