Government will soon officially unveil the Digital Integrated System which opens access to all government services online, with indications showing much progress on the ground-breaking initiative.

In 2021, the cabinet approved the Digital Integration System to enhance service delivery by electronically linking various departments including the Civil Registry, Immigration and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage 2023 strategic review workshop in Victoria Falls on Friday, Minister Kazembe Kazembe said the system allows the seamless sharing of information, enhances operational efficiency, reduces operational costs, curbs corruption and improves the ease of doing business.

"Some of the systems are already running, that’s why we now have e-passport services. ZRP is already working on the electronic traffic management system.

"It means we will now have the technology to police our roads, this includes the installation of cameras at critical areas of our roads. If you drive through a red robot, the camera will be able to pick it up.

"This system will then be linked to the Central Vehicle Registry Department where the vehicle owner will be identified. The same data is also shared with the Civil Registry Department to reveal more about the owner of the vehicle," Minister Kazembe said.

Plans to launch the system are now at an advanced stage.

"All the strategies have already been formulated, we already have that strategy and it is just awaiting the President to launch it," he added.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Gerald Gwinji, outlined the purpose of the workshop.

"The review process touched on strategic plan progress updates from 2021 to date with various departments presenting progress reports, with others critiquing the progress and offering advice accordingly."

The harnessing of Information Communication Technologies has been identified as critical in the attainment of Vision 2030.
