A Hatcliffe father-in-law forcibly raped his daughter-in-law, claiming that sleeping with him was the only qualification for her to be her father in law.
Kenias Tazira, 52, of Hatcliffe, appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of rape.
The complainant in this matter is Ropafadzo Tsime, 19, of Hatcliffe in Harare.
The State, through prosecutor Tawanda Nyandoro, alleges that, sometime in January 2023, Tsime’s father-in-law told her that she could only be certified as his daughter-in-law after having sexual intercourse with him.
Tsime refused and this infuriated Tazira, who started assaulting her using open hands on her face.
Tazira took advantage of Tsime since they were only two of them in the house and went on to grab her hand and dragged her into the bedroom and locked the door.
He dragged her on the bed, leading to her skirt getting torn on the vent. He removed Tsime’s pants and unzipped his pants and had sexual intercourse with her.
He had sexual intercourse with her three times before releasing her.
Tazira, threatened her not to reveal the matter to anyone.
On May 21, 2022, she revealed the matter to one Chipo Sembeziya who then escorted her to make a report at ZRP Borrowdale, leading to the arrest of Tazira.
Tazira was ordered to appear in court on May 31, for bail application.
