Zanu PF has blocked disgraced former deputy Agriculture Minister and Mbire Member of Parliament Douglas Karoro from submitting his nomination papers at the Bindura Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
Karoro did not appear at the Nomination Court regardless of the fact that he had won the primary elections and even got a party vehicle.
Instead, it was David Butau, whom he had defeated in the primaries, who filed his papers for the Mbire constituency.
Sources said the party leadership told him to step aside and surrender his candidature as he had allegations of graft hovering over him.
“Karoro was told to step down by the leadership since he has pending court cases, hence Butau is back,” said the source.
Butau was once dropped by the party after being accused of having links with former Vice President Joice Mujuru.
Ironically, aspiring Mazowe Central candidate, Maxmore Njanji successfully submitted his nomination papers although he too has pending court cases.
Provincial party chairperson Kazembe Kazembe’s mobile number was not reachable.
