Man takes advantage of wife’s absence, rapes maid

A former maid who was raped by her boss and when the wife heard of the matter fired her has taken the husband to court for rape.

Leonard Mujera, 42, of Northway Avenue Prospect, Waterfalls appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.

The complainant in this matter is Sofia Mhetu, 22, of Glenview 8.

The State through prosecutor Pardon Dziva alleges that on April 4, 2023, Mhetu was employed by Mujera’s wife as a maid.

Sometime in May 2023, Mujera told Mhetu that he wanted to have sex with her and would give her US$5 in return but Mhetu refused the offer.

Mujera then pulled Mhetu down on the floor and removed her pant.

He went on top of her, she tried to rescue herself but Mujera overpowered her.

He went on to have sex with her without her consent.

After a week, Mhetu revealed the matter to a maid who works for Mujera’s co- tenant who advised her to look for another job.

During that same month, Mhetu who did not mind that Mhetu was sleeping together with his sister in-law went and forcibly and forcibly removed her pant and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her.

On June 17, 2023, Mujera invited Mhetu to his bedroom and she refused.

Mujera tried to drag her into his bedroom but she denied to enter the bedroom.

Mhetu later told Mujera’s sister in law who told his wife.

His wife then asked Mujera what had happened but he denied the allegations.

Mhetu was fired by Mujera’s wife. When she got home she narrated the story to her parents and a police report was filed, leading to Mujera's arrest.

Mujera will appear in court on July 20.
