A Norton man who defrauded a woman of her retirement package appeared before magistrate Munashe Chibanda.
Fife Geza, 47, was charged with fraud.
The complainant in this matter is Lucia Maigura, 65, of Ngoni Flat in Norton.
It is the State’s case through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, that on January 12, 2022, at CABS Bank, Corner Park Street and Jason Moyo in Harare, Maigura met Geza and one Philip Murewa who is still at large .
Geza knew that Maigura had received her retirement package and he lied that they would give her US$5 000 if she transfered RTGS$1 000 000 into Murewa's CABS account.
After Maigura had transferred the money, they took her to Jameson Hotel pretending that they were going to give her the United States dollars’ equivalent.
They bought food for her and disappeared before giving her the money. That was the last time Maigura saw the two.
On January 17, 2022, Geza went to Maigura's house and he gave US$1 960 to her son, leaving a balance of US$3 040. He never returned leading to police hunting for him and the subsequent arrest.
Geza was ordered to return to court on August 30.
