Sheman Penyani, 21, Unit L and Isiah Chiocha, 42, Unit H, in Chitungwiza, appeared before magistrate Standford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with armed robbery.
The Court heard, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, that on May 27, 2023 at around 2000 hours two people who are complainants in this matter, went to Corner Second Street and Herbert Chitepo, looking for transport to take them to Glendale.
At around 2145, Penyani and Chiocha - together with their accomplices that are still on the run - went to the complainants while driving a silver Toyota Voxy, pretending to be plying the Harare-Bindura route and were looking for passengers.
The complainants and two other unknown men got into the car and the accused drove the car towards Mazowe along Second Street.
When they reached at corner Golden Stairs and Lomagundi roads, they turned into Lomagundi road.
Immediately one of the accused pulled out a knife and the other one pulled out an unidentified pistol and pointed at the complainants.
They ordered them to surrender their phones, money and bags.
They then stabbed one complainant with a knife just above the left eye and on the left side of his chin after he had tried to resist.
They tied his arms and mouth using torn clothes while the car was still in motion.
They searched him and took his brown wallet which contained US$750, BancABC card and CABS card, they also took his iPhone X Max phone.
During the scuffle, one of the complainant smashed the rear left window trying to make his way out but was caught.
They two took his small black and green side bag which had a small brown key holder, wallet, a black Itel A56 and US$40.
Penyani and Chiocha then went with the complainants and parked their car near Revo Service Station along Glenara Road where they pushed all the complainants out of the car and drove away. They had stolen a blue baseball jacket, a satchel with silver sandals, black sweater, black tracksuit bottom, black power bank, navy blue formal shirt and a pair of scotched formal trousers.
The value that was stolen was US$1 455 and only US$25 was recovered.
The court was also informed that on June 28, at around 1900 hours, a complainant boarded a black Serena wanting to go to Kadoma.
In the car were seven people.
When they got to Snake Park turn-off along Bulawayo Road, one of the accused who was seated at the back told the complainant and other passengers that they had boarded a car belonging to criminals.
Penyani and Chiocha had two other accomplices. One woman started assaulting the complainant and other passengers with an electric cable.
They then drove into Somerby Farm where one of the accused produced a knife, an unidentified pistol and threatened to kill the passengers if they failed to comply with their instructions.
They ordered the complainant and other occupants to surrender their money and valuables.
The complainant surrendered a khaki wallet which had US$290, spirit level, building measure, black small bag which had clothes, an Itel phone and a Samsung S8.
They went on to undress the complainant and other victims, tied both their hands using shoe laces before blind-folding them using pieces of cloth.
They then dumped them in the same farm and drove away.
The total value stolen was US$700 and only US$10 was recovered.
On June 30, detectives from CID Homicide were informed that the two were involved in armed robbery.
They made their surveillance in Chitungwiza and arrested the two accused.
Upon arresting them Penyani was wearing a blue baseball jacket written “Yankees” that he had stolen from one of his victims.
They also led to the recovery of their getaway cars, silver Toyota Voxy and a black Serena.
Penyani and Chiocha were remanded in custody to July 19 and advised to approach the High Court for bail.
