A Mbare man who raped a vendor from whom he took bananas and apples before asking her to accompany him to his house to collect the money has appeared in court charged with rape.
Tinotenda Manyandu, 29, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.
The State, through prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleges that on June 28, the complainant in this matter, Nyasha Murombo, 20, was selling fruits around Mbare.
She met Manyandu, who took five bananas and three apples. After that, he told her that she was she was supposed to accompany him to his house to get money for the fruits he had taken and she agreed.
When they arrived, Manyandu allegedly saw this as a perfect opportunity to force himself on Murombo.
He pushed her inside the house and locked the door, pushed her on the bed, removed her pant and his trousers and had sex with her without her consent.
Manyandu, who did not admit to the allegations, was ordered to pay US$100 bail.
Gofa instructed him to appear in court on August 3 for a trial date.
