Gerald Miti’s life is practically a tour starting at Trek in Samora Machel moving to the one in Avondale then Zimre Park. From there to Dairiboard Zimbabwe and finally over to Chinhoyi University of Technology where he recently graduated with a Bachelor of Honours Degree in Production Engineering.

"What I can say to anyone with a dream is all things are possible, there will be situations that will try to make you doubt yourself, your potential and make you think you crazy for dreaming, stay hidden and go through the process," says Miti.

Miti completed his A levels in 2015 at Fletcher High school in Gweru. His results were good, but university was out of question because the fees were just beyond his means.

For a while, the Miti says he put away thoughts of further study, telling himself to accept that this was his fate. But only for shot while.

He dreams were too real to just throw aside. He went around looking for any opening. The he found a job as a fuel attendant.

He enrolled at CUT and started the difficult path of full time employment and studying.

He recalls how kind the owner and manager were to him when he told them he wanted to study engineering. They encouraged and allowed him to fit his fuel attending hours around his studies.

Although this was a step in the direction he wanted, the path was not going to be as easy as Miti would sometimes miss lectures as he had to travel a lot.

He utilised the night shifts at work to work on assignments and two final year projects that were the most difficult.

"My class mates know best. There are times when I would have so many up and downs. Sometimes I would negotiate with some of my workmates to cover for me when I could not show up for work," he recalls with a laugh

"Commit and give yourself to the dream, do whatever it takes and you will enjoy the fruit of your labour. Don’t stop at anything," Miti says.
