A man who was arrested for wearing stolen sneakers and was found with army uniform at his house when police took him there has appeared in court.

Robson Mhandu, 47, of St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with robbery.

The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that on July 30, 2023, at around 0100 hours, the complainant was sitting in his car, a silver Honda Fit at VIP Bar at Chikwanha Shopping Centre having some drinks.

He was approached by three men who opened his car doors and forced him outside the car, leaving the keys on the ignition port.

They assaulted him with open hands and fists all over his body.

They got into the car and drove towards the CBD, leaving the complainant behind.

Inside the car there was US$320 and a pair of Nike sneakers.

A report was made at ZRP Zengeza and on the same day the car was found abandoned along Harare-Mahusekwa road.

On July 31, 2023, the complainant identified the stolen sneakers which were worn by Mhandu, leading to his arrest. He was interviewed and implicated one Gibson as his accomplice.

Detectives took Mhandu to his house, which they searched, leading to the recovery of 2× army denim trousers, 1× army combat belt, army shirts and 1× army t-shirt.

He failed to give a satisfactory answer for unlawfully possessing the camouflage uniform yet he was not a member of the army.

Mhandu was denied bail and was ordered to apply at the High Court since he was facing a third schedule offence.
