Power outages lead to Mimosa recording decline in tonnes milled

Zim Now Writer

Impala Platinum Holdings and Sibanye Still Water, 50/50 owned Platinum group metals producer Mimosa Mining Company recorded a 2.9% decrease in tonnes milled for the year ended June 30, 2023 compared to the previous year.

In its production update, Mimosa said the tonnes milled declined from 2 816 000 from the previous year to 2 735 000 due to severe load shedding.

“In addition to load curtailment at South African managed and JV operations during the period, severe load-shedding was experienced across the Zimbabwean national grid in March 2023, while operations at Mimosa were impacted by further intermittent power outages in May and June.

“At Mimosa, 6E in concentrate volumes declined to 245 000 ounces. Processing and plant stability was impacted by the commissioning and optimizing of the concentrator project, power interruptions, changes in reagent supply and poor water quality,” reads the update.

The company’s 6E Grade also declined by 1.4% to 3.77g/t from the 3.82g/t the previous year.
