A suspected armed robber was killed in a shootout with police in Epworth last night.
Two other suspected robbers were arrested.
The deceased has been identified as Trymore Bondamakara.
The trio are all suspects in the ABC Auctions robbery that occurred a few days ago in Harare. One suspect is as yet unaccounted for.
Reports say that the gang of four robbers armed with pistols allegedly raided ABC Auctions around 1.30 am, tied up two security guards manning the premises.
The robbers then blasted open five safes and collected cash.
Cases of armed robberies have gone up around the country with the police calling on the public for information to assist in investigations and apprehension of the perpetrators.
Recently three armed robbers raided a house in Kwekwe’s Mbizo 19 suburb and got away with US$20 000 cash after raping some female occupants. No arrests have been made.
Prior to that another gang ambushed security vans carrying gold from a mine near Bulawayo. Some suspects have since been arrested.
Last month a gang raided Koala Park Abattoir in Harare and got away with US$30 thousand and mobile phones. A suspect has since been arrested.
