Former detective, Jason Muvhevhi has been detained to Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit for mental treatment after the court said that he could not stand trial

Muvhevhi made headlines after fatally shooting three people in Wedza and fled only to be caught in Mozambique.

He also shot and critically injured one Detective Constable Tendai Mugova, who had attempted to arrest him.

His matter was before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts in his absence and was detained at Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit as reports from doctors confirmed that he was mentally unstable.

His lawyer, Blessed Matandire, said he was not sure how long he was going to be at the psychiatric institution.

“So after the grant of the initial application made which is for the psychiatrist examination of Muvhevhi, it has been found by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act that Muvhevhi suffers from mental illness and therefore the court has made a decision to detain him at Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit for mental treatment and for further management,” he said.
