Man dupes nurses, now faces fraud charges in court

A man who allegedly made nurses to pay US$62 for him to employ them under an unregistered company called Cancer Care Angels Private Limited has appeared in court after failing to pay them.

Olismas Kapau, 48, of Glen Norah A, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of fraud.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges in February 2023, Kapau allegedly lied to the complainants and employed them under Cancer Care Angels Private Limited as nurses and care givers upon payment of a fee of US$62.

They were all made to sign employment contracts by Kapau.

They started work in February 2023, but Kapau failed to pay their salaries.

This led them to report the matter to the police.

It was later established that Cancer Care Angels Private Limited was not a registered company neither was it an affiliate of any Health Board by the time of engagement of complainants.

Kapau retrospectively registered Cancer Care Angels Private Limited on March 2, 2023, but he failed to ratify the employment contracts made before the company was registered.

As a result of Kapau’s lies, the complainants lost US$496 and nothing was recovered.
