Politician and Human Rights Defender, Linda Tsungirirai Masarira has commended ZBC for promptly suspending Robson Mhandu over sexual harassment allegations.

This comes as Mhandu, who is Director, Radio Services at the national broadcaster after he was accused of demanding sexual favours from a female subordinate.

Masarira posted on her X wall advocating against sexual harassment of women at work places,

“Sexual harassment at the workplace continues to be an inhibiting factor for the success of women at the workplace. Robson Mhandu’s sexual harassment saga has finally brought to the limelight the realities of what women in media and broadcasting face.”

She said women have been complaining abuse the abuse they endure at the hands of men at work for such a long time now.

“Women in media have been crying for stiff penalties on all men who prey on them as they execute their duties. Being beautiful should not reduce one to being a candidate for horizontal gymnastics at the workplace. The swift action taken by @ZBC to suspend Robson is commendable and not enough.”

According to Masarira sexual harassment is a violation of human rights.

“Sexual harassment is a violation of human and trade union rights and dignity. Any person found demanding sex from subordinates, sexually abusing and harassing women at the workplace should be fired and blacklisted. We need safe working spaces for the girl child and women in Zimbabwe. Women are not cannon fodder at the workplace.”

Masarira encouraged women to record and report any case of sexual harassment and abuse at the workplace.

“Usadyirwe musaga nekunyara kana kuda (You must be on the look-out for these sex predators who want sexual favours from you in return for) promotion. Dear Woman, Expose any form of sexual harassment at the workplace.”
