The mastermind behind a ZB bank cash-in-transit heist totalling US$2,7 million together with his two accomplices have each been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Shadreck Njowa, Tendai Zuze and Neverson Mwamuka were convicted after a full trial by Harare magistrate, Clever Tsikwa.
Prosecutors proved that Njowa, who was a ZB bank employee at the time, masterminded the robbery.
The armed robbery was executed in January 2021 at Gwebi Bridge along the Harare-Chirundu Road.
The trio hijacked a cash-in-transit vehicle that was distributing money at various ZB bank branches in and outside Mashonaland West province.
Some of their accomplices were acquitted for lack of evidence linking them to the robbery.
Investigations traced the crime to the bank’s own employee and accomplices.
