President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday officially commissioned the US$25 million Chilmund Chemicals plant that will produce granular and aluminium sulphate to the manufacturing plant owned by Chilmund Chemicals in Bindura.
This plant can produce 10 tonnes of aluminium sulphate per hour.
Aluminium Sulphate is a chemical agent that is used for the purification of water.
Speaking while commissioning the plant, President Mnangagwa said the project is evidence of growing belief and self-confidence among young Zimbabwean entrepreneurs, who are now taking up opportunities in manufacturing sector.
He also added: “It is my singular honour and privilege to officiate at Chilmund Chemicals plant. I am pleased to bear witness to their milestone achievement.”
His Excellency said it is pleasing to note that the aluminium sulphate produced at the Bindura plant meets international quality standards and the products from the plant will support the government quest to enhance access to clean and safe potable water.
Currently, the bulk of water treatment chemicals are imported at a huge cost given that they have to be paid for in foreign currency.
A local manufacturer would be a cheaper option for most local authorities who are battling to ensure a constant supply of clean, safe and potable water to their residents.
