All is set for the Bob Nyabinde, popularly known as The Headmaster’s fundraising gig, which has been slated for Sunday October 22 at Sherwood Golf Club.

The fundraising gig is meant to cushion Nyabinde, who has not been well for a while.

Speaking to Zim Now, Yasini Dala, one of the event organisers, said it was a collaboration with Chippaz, representing the Promoters Association.

“It is a collaboration with Chippaz. He is the chairperson of the Promoters Association. I have worked with Bob Nyabinde for more than ten years now and we felt we must lend a helping hand.

“He hasn’t been well for three years now. He is now blind and he had a stroke. He is struggling to walk and he has been attending physio-therapy sessions which are being charged US$50 per session, which is a lot. So, we have decided to chip in,” he said.

Artists who have confirmed performing so far are Victor Kunonga, Kireni Zulu, Rute Mbangwa and Tariro Negitare among others.

Meanwhile, Victor Kunonga, one of the artists who confirmed performing at the gig, said his role was being part of the great idea of choosing to perform.

“This show is not an afterthought. It happens in every industry, in our case it is important to focus on what unites us.

“Medical bills are expensive and any form of help is welcome and I would like to play my role. As artists, we must unite in helping each other before we lose one another,” Kunonga said.

The show is free of charge and guests are encouraged to pledge in cash or groceries.

Bob Nyabinde was born on March 10, 1955. He is an award-winning Afro-jazz musician, whose moniker “The Headmaster” is drawn from his career as a teacher. He has hits song such as Chabuda Hapana and Mombe yaSamanyika.
