Private sectors and development agencies are encouraged to Partner with Great Zimbabwe University Innovation Hub to accelerate its commercialisation, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Great Zimbabwe University Innovation Hub President Mnangagwa said:
“I call upon all the private sectors and development agencies to partner with the university to accelerate the commercialisation and adoption of inventions and the products from our innovative.
President Mnangagwa urged GZU to allow other non-university students to have access to the Innovation Hub.
“I exhort Great Zimbabwe University to ensure that innovative and talented young boys and girls in and around Masvingo Province also to have access to the Innovation Hub.”
He also called on universities to produce knowledge and skills essential for national economic growth.
He emphasised the need for universities to continuously review their programmes to address the country’s development needs, encouraging innovation and relevance.
The President said the importance of innovation hubs and industrial parks in the industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe cannot be over-emphasised.
He challenged GZU to move quickly to commercialise the innovations from the institution.
President Mnangagwa was happy to note that some of the goods used to be imported into the country are now being processed in Zimbabwe by Higher Education institutions and other companies run by government ministries departments.
In addition, the president directed the upgrade of Masvingo Provincial Hospital and emphasised the significance of innovation hubs and industrial parks in developing prototypes for commercialisation and creating economic growth opportunities.
