Man arrested over 22kg ivory

A 22-year-old man, Godfrey Eliam was arrested by detectives from CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit, Harare on Friday after being found with two pieces of ivory weighing 22 kilogrammes and valued at US$3 740.

Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest on X wall.

“On 20/10/23, acted on received information and arrested Godfrey Eliam, 22, at a house in Marlborough in connection with unlawful possession of two pieces of ivory weighing 22 kilogrammes and valued at US$ 3 740-00.”

A 303 rifle was also recovered at the scene.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo police are investigating a case of robbery which occurred along Grayville Road near Arlington Court, Ascot on Saturday.

Three unknown suspects, who were travelling in a white Toyota Runx, attacked a shop manager, who was going home while driving a Toyota Belta vehicle and stole US$29 000 cash which was in the boot.

Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery in which two suspects armed with a stone and a small axe pounced on a house along Nzou Crescent, Winsor, Ruwa where they stole US$10 610, 1 700 Zambian Kwacha, ZAR 2 500, 50 Pounds and 200 000 Tanzanian Shillings cash as well as a laptop, four cellphones, five pairs of tennis shoes and two school bags.

On Saturday, police in Harare arrested 22-year-olds, Malvin Chiwara and Tinashe Kutsime, in connection with a case of attempted robbery which occurred at a shop along Shepperton Road, Graniteside.

The suspects, who were accompanied by their two other accomplices, struck at the shop on the pretext that they wanted to buy 500 pairs of plastic pushes, before attacking the shop attendant.

The other suspects fled the scene after the shop attendant sought assistance from the public after escaping. The arrest led to the recovery of the suspects’ getaway car, a Nissan March, registration number ADE 3867, hammer, machete, two screw drivers and a metal hook.
