The Carling Black Label is launching the Carling Black Label DJ Clash competition which will be held in four stages, targeting both aspiring and professional DJs.

Last year, the Carling Black Label DJ clashes were launched on a modest scale, targeting aspiring university student DJs.

A closed-door panel of judges will adjudicate and select the best 24 mixtapes per region.

Bulawayo, Harare North, Harare South, Chitungwiza, Chinhoyi, Gweru, Masvingo and Mutare are some of the regions participating at the competitions.

The first prize will be US$500 and second prize US$250.

A total of 24 DJs will qualify for the national finals to be held in Bulawayo on December 22, 2023.

The DJs will battle it out for the ultimate prize consisting of US$3 000, laptop, controller, cordless microphone, and sound monitor while the first runner-up will walk away with US$2 000, studio monitor and cordless microphone.

In a statement, Delta Beverages said the brand seeks to develop and showcase true champions by giving them a platform to exhibit their talents.

“Music plays an integral part in our consumers’ lives, and what better way to engage our consumers through what they love.

“The property was a huge success, with overwhelming support and excitement from both participants our consumers. As a result, the decision was made to expand it to the mainstream market.

“Our consumers will get a chance to share their voice by voting for the best DJs through a sound meter,” reads the statement.

Participants are required to register and upload a 90 seconds mixtape via WhatsApp.

Registration opened on October 9.

The regional competitions started in Masvingo on October 27 and will run until December 15.
