Zimbabwe is now ready to host the international conference on Aids and STIs in Africa which is to take place in the country from December 4 to 9 2023.

This will be the 22nd edition of the biggest Aids conference in the African continent with more than 8 000 delegates expected to be in the country.

Speaking during a press briefing, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, Minister of Heath and Child Care said everything was now in place for the conference.

“We are very proud that Zimbabwe will be hosting this conference starting on December 4 ending on the 9th. We have continued to work hard as a country to ensure that all delegates attending the international conference on Aids and STIs in Africa enjoy their visit in Zimbabwe and experience a unique package of business and tourism.

“All our systems from security, banking, accommodation, transportation, health and other have been checked and tested and I want to assure our visitors that Zimbabwe is ready. The security of delegates is guaranteed both in Harare and elsewhere as they go out and about attending the conference.”

The country has currently been battling a cholera outbreak.

He also highlighted that they have strengthened the health delivery surveillance systems to ensure that visitors and locals have access to needed health services.

“We have managed to deal with isolated outbreaks of cholera that were reported some months ago. Let me emphasise that our surveillance system is exceptionally effective and has picked all cases and have all since been treated,” he said.

Zimbabwe is expecting to host more than 8 000 delegates during the ICASA conference with 3 000 having confirmed. The conference will have 245 sessions and 735 speakers lined up.
